| There is rumour that a Danish citizen Søren Hagerup is the original individual from where the name originates. His existence has never been documented or verified. There is a claim that Bishop Eiler Hagerup 1685-1743 was a close friend of Bishop Eiler Hagerup born Kongel (1718-1789). What is proven is that the mother of Eiler Hagerup 1718-1789 was a cousin of the wife of Eiler Kongel 1685-1743. The two bishops were not blood related, but their children were! The younger Eiler was a bright boy. What is known is that the older bishop wanted to help him in his education and took him into his house. In those days there were no adoption agencies. The young Eiler was not sent to the university in Trondheim, but to Copenhagen as that was the only university at the time in Denmark-Norway. Norway was more or less a province of Denmark in those days. The composer Edvard Hagerup Grieg was not blood related to the older Eiler Hagerup, but is often mentioned in connection to the Hagerup name. The younger Eiler Hagerup was the great grandfather of both Edvard and his wife Nina. Pauline (Polla) PAULSEN Born: 22 Feb 1814 at: Stange, Hedmark was said to be of royal decent, but like the old faritale of Søren, - it still stands to be proven. Anyone out there that can help me? |
